Yesterday, two RAF Typhoon fighters were scrambled to intercept a Latvian An-26 cargo plane that was not responding to repeated radio calls after taking an unauthorized detour over London. Audio of the radio message from one of the Typhoons was recorded. You can listen to it !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! because I can't figure out how to embed it.

"MLA1605 from the L9T47, I am instructed by Her Majesty's government of the United Kingdom to warn you if you do not respond immediately to my orders you will be shot down"

The Typhoons then escorted the cargo plane to a landing at Stantead airport.

To the best of my knowledge, it has never come to a shoot down, at least not during peacetime. Even if the radios are out, the fighters can make their presence known and communicate with hand signals or wing waggles. An actual shoot down could be a very serious provocation, though nothing has seemed to come of MH17 beyond a planeload of dead people.
